Neuromuscular Therapy

Trigger points are specific areas in muscle or fascia that, when stimulated, cause pain in other areas of the muscle. They are generally felt as a band or lump, and are not caused by irritation, trauma, infection or an abnormal growth.

The focus of neuromuscular therapy is to identify and treat trigger points. Pressure is applied in a static manner -- that is, staying still, instead of moving across or along the muscle -- in order to deactivate the trigger point. Trigger points may exist in muscles, tendons, and other connective tissue.

Treatment of trigger points in my practice includes stretching of the muscle or fascia, deep tissue massage, and other techniques customized to the client's needs.
